The Tree of Knowledge History

The Tree of Knowledge of good and evil was one of two trees planted by God in the Garden of Eden in the biblical story of Genesis. The second was the Tree of Life, whose fruits gave immortality.

God specifically forbade Adam and Eve to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. Later the serpent tempted Eve into eating a fruit from the forbidden tree and she shared one with Adam.

As a consequence they became aware of good and evil and were expelled from the Garden of Eden. God placed cherubim to guard the garden's entrance.

And God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the Tree of Life and eat, and live forever."
