José Gómez Rosas History

José Antonio Gómez Rosas (1916-1977) aka El Hotentote was a Mexican painter who despite his enormous talent was never recognized because in his artwork he harshly criticized the artistic community of his time including Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo and David Alfaro Siqueiros.

He organized the annual masquerade at the San Carlos Art Academy and painted the party's backdrop. Every time he participate in the party's costume contest he won it; the costumes were always designed by him.

He was a tireless artist who did paintings, murals, backdrops and designed clothes for theater plays and dance representations.
